A Form 4 is used by a licensed plumber or drainer to register completed notifiable work with the QBCC. Notifiable work can generally proceed without a local-government plumbing permit or mandatory inspection, but it must still comply with Queensland plumbing laws — common examples include bathroom or kitchen renovation plumbing, replacing or installing hot water systems, and installing or relocating fixtures such as toilets, showers and sinks.
The licensed contractor is responsible for registering the work with the QBCC within 10 business days. Not every job is notifiable — some work is classified as minor work or permit work instead — so we confirm the correct classification and handle the Form 4 as part of our compliance process where the scope requires it.

Braided flexible connector hoses under sinks, basins, toilets and appliances have a limited lifespan, and corrosion, age, poor routing or excessive strain can contribute to sudden failure and major water damage.
Warning signs worth checking for periodically: rust staining or corrosion, a broken or frayed braid, bulging, kinks or twisting, moisture around the connection, or a hose stretched tightly between fittings. A simple visual check each year, and licensed replacement on schedule rather than waiting for failure, is the easiest way to avoid an expensive flood.
Washer taps are usually multi-turn — a rubber washer seals against a valve seat, and over time this wears and causes drips. Ceramic-disc taps are usually quarter-turn, using two hard ceramic surfaces to control flow, with a worn cartridge typically replaced as a complete component rather than repaired piece by piece.
Both can perform well for years. Product quality, water conditions, correct installation and future spare-part availability tend to matter more than the operating style alone.
Every property has a main water shut-off valve, usually near the water meter at the front boundary, and often individual isolation valves under sinks and toilets. Locate the valve, turn it clockwise until fully closed, then open a low cold tap to confirm the supply has stopped.
Knowing the location of your main shut-off before an emergency happens means you can stop a leak or burst pipe in seconds rather than searching for it while water is flowing. Keep people away from any water near electrical equipment, switchboards or damaged wiring while you do this.
Stop using toilets, sinks, showers and any appliances connected to the affected drain straight away. Keep people and pets away from contaminated water, and avoid direct contact.
Repeated chemical cleaners rarely address a structural cause and can create handling risks — a proper drainage assessment is the safer path if the problem is ongoing or severe. Contact us for urgent attendance if sewage is actively overflowing.
Problems inside the property boundary are commonly the owner's responsibility, while faults affecting the public main, street meter or wider network may fall to the local water authority instead.

Recurring blockages are often caused by tree roots, damaged pipework, poor falls, displaced joints, foreign objects or a build-up of grease over time. Clearing the blockage restores flow, but it doesn't fix whatever let the problem start in the first place.
If the same drain keeps blocking, it's usually worth a camera inspection to find the actual cause rather than repeating the same temporary fix every few months.
A drain camera survey provides visual evidence from inside accessible pipework, and can help confirm the cause, location and extent of a defect — cracks, root intrusion, displaced joints, partial collapse, or a section holding water that suggests poor fall.
It has limits, though: a camera doesn't see through the pipe wall, soil or concrete, so it may not confirm every leak, exact pipe depth, or the condition of an inaccessible branch. It's also most useful once the line is reasonably clear — heavy blockage, grease or standing water may need clearing first.
High-pressure jetting uses controlled water through a specialised nozzle to scour pipe walls and move grease, sludge, silt and loose debris — useful for cleaning longer sections, though it needs suitable access, water supply and safe discharge.
A mechanical drain machine rotates a cutting or retrieval head to punch through a local obstruction, and can suit smaller internal waste lines or situations where jetting access isn't practical — but it doesn't necessarily clean the full pipe wall the way jetting does. We choose based on the blockage history, pipe size/material and access available.
Tree roots are attracted to moisture and usually enter drains through an existing crack, open joint or failed seal — they rarely penetrate sound, intact pipe. Clearing the roots restores flow but doesn't repair the defect that let them in, so recurrence is likely unless the damaged section is repaired or relined.
Your overflow relief gully (ORG) is a separate thing entirely — a safety fitting, usually an external grated point, designed to overflow outside the house if the sanitary drain blocks downstream, rather than sewage backing up through your fixtures. Keep it visible and unobstructed, and never concrete over it, pave it or fit a sealed cap — it needs to stay able to do its job.
Ahead of heavy rain, clear leaves and debris from accessible gutters, downpipes and any visible stormwater grates or pits so water can drain away freely, and check downpipes for damage or disconnection.
Persistent pooling in the yard can point to poor surface grading, a blocked pit or a damaged stormwater line — worth having checked before storm season rather than during an active downpour. Roof and surface water should never be directed into the sanitary sewer.
Leaks, rusty water, inconsistent temperature, unusual noise or an ageing unit can all justify an assessment before a complete breakdown. Water pooling around the unit, relief-valve discharge, corrosion, electrical tripping, gas odours or unstable temperature all warrant prompt attention.
Relief valves and temperature controls are safety devices — never cap, block or adjust them to stop a symptom. Keep commissioning details and product/warranty records on file, which makes future servicing and ownership handover far easier.
Even wipes labelled "flushable" don't break down the way toilet paper does. They can catch on pipe joints and tree roots, building into blockages over time in your own pipes or the wider sewer network.
The safest rule: only pee, poo and toilet paper go down the toilet. Everything else — wipes, paper towel, cotton buds, dental floss, sanitary products — goes in the bin.
